Good Morning,
Something very odd happened a few days ago, which I would like you to research and give your thoughts about what might have happened. Thousands of birds have been falling from the sky, dead. Start with the following link to find information and then proceed to any aditional sites that might have information explaining this odd occurance. Do you think we should be worried?
http://news.google.com/news/more?q=red+wing+black+bird+deaths&hl=en&safe=active&prmd=ivnsu&resnum=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ncl=dr11-ZBt5Pan36M8XIN9lirNHCQXM&ei=5o4jTdOgN4issAOe3ZzOAg&sa=X&oi=news_result&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CC0QqgIwAA
I do and do not think we should be worried. The article showed that things like this have happened 16 times in the last 20 years! Also, about 500 million to 1 billion birds are killed every year. I do think, though, that we should cut back on our pollution, which is most likely the cause of these mass deaths. Many people shoot off fireworks on New Years Eve, which could have startled or killed the birds, for the masses were found dead on New Year's day. Other sources tell us it may be weather related, which is sad, but entirely uncontrollable. For the fish, I believe it may just be a coincidence in a sense. 100,000 tons of fish per year die of natural causes, pollution, and other fatal occurrences. This could just be happening by chance that many fish just happened to wash up, dead, on the shore.

ReplyDeleteThe phenomenon wasn't limited to birds, actually. Masses of fish were found dead, in the same state, at about the same time. Bird poisoning obviously can't explain what happened, but whatever caused it can't be a global or even countrywide occurrence: the effects would be far more gradual.
ReplyDeleteThere's no decent explanation for what happened: any theories are probably just speculation at this point.
I do not believe that we should be worried as this entire incident is blow way out of proportion. There were too few animals dead for this to be a apocalypse scenario that would cause a huge problem, like every bird on Earth suddenly dropping dead. There are too many logical explanations for this incident for conspiracy theories to be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should be worried a little bit, but not freaking out about it. I think that we should be worried of the fact that why have all of these birds and fish just suddenly started to die out of the blue. Also, we need to take into consideration that we should not be as worried and that we should just leave the situation alone. Some might say that if we leave it alone that it will accumulate into something much bigger. So big in fact that all of the birds and fish go extinct. I think that since this has just come up, we should let things play out and if they reach drastic measures then we should start to worry. As for right now, I believe we should not make a big deal of the problem.
ReplyDeleteFirst, maybe they aren't blackbirds, maybe they're pigeons that got into the oil spill. Maybe this is all our fault and we should think about not putting oil into the ocean. We should be worried, but not for ourselves. We should be worried for the environment, and how we are changing it for the bad.
ReplyDeleteNot at all. This is no divine sign, or anything out of the ordinary. This is just a random coincidence. It gives all news sources a full opportunity to intimidate, worry and scare people to gain popularity. Nobody should be hyped up about this. It's very likely that the effects of the oil spill spread around. Things like this happen from time to time.
ReplyDeleteYes and no we should be worried. If the animals are dying because of a toxin or even the fireworks then we should be worried because we are doing this to them and what animals will be next? If the animals are dying because of a sickness that is spreading around then I wouldn't be as worried as if we were causing this. I think that this happening from the humans, but why only in those states? Are they the states that are known for their big parties with fireworks or have a sickness going around near the states? One the results are released this will determine how worried we should be. Then again this has happened 16 times in the past 20 years, that is almost once every year!
ReplyDeleteI do not believe we should be worried about this occurance. As stated in the article, "when one news report about dead birds becomes big news, a measly few dead birds anywhere in the world becomes big news. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy." To me it seems like fireworks, gas, and maybe the weather could have caused most of the deaths but now that we know that birds are randomly dying through the world it seems that people are stressing out to much. When people start to stress out rumors get started which can turn into big event like this. Mass deaths have been noted about 16 times in the past 20 years, so I believe this is just another which gets spread to other places very easily.

ReplyDeleteI guess they actually were blackbirds. And sparrwos. Actually, several different species of all colors. My bad
ReplyDeleteI don't think that we should be worried about these dead birds and fish, because it is estimated that there have been 16 mass deaths like this the past 20 years alone. Also, about 500 million - 1 billions birds die each year, so this is nothing new. It is also very likely that the deaths were caused by humans; stuff like the birds being scared by the fireworks or getting tangled in power lines, and toxic chemicals in the waters may have been killing the fish. It is also possible that the animals can't survive in cold weather because they're simply not used to it. If i had to guess the most likely scenario, I would choose the fact that the weather has been unusually cold, therefore killing or harming these animals. However, this does not explain why it all happened just after New Years Eve. I don't think it's very likely that so many birds could be killed by fireworks if so many years, they have been safe. As for now, i think it's safe to assume it isn't the beginning of the apocalypse, but just a strange coincidence that has happened many times before.

ReplyDeleteI believe that we should not be worried because this particular event has happened 16 times in the past 20 years. This could also because by cold weather stress or fireworks stressing out roosting birds so badly that they die. Also, almost every one of the birds had multiple hemorrhages, meaning that they died from trauma.
ReplyDeleteI think that this may be caused by something that the government doesn't want us to know about. Scientists and researchers are saying it could have been caused by the shock of the fireworks, which may have been understandable on New Years Day, but to also fall 2 days afterwords in a different location doesn't exactly add up. Some scientists have also suggested that the birds might have been hit by lightning, but no one has even confirmed there was lightning in either of the areas where the birds fell.
ReplyDeleteWhen the birds were brought in for autopsy, they found very interesting results. The birds had no toxic substance in their bodies, which was the initial fear by many people, that there were toxic substances in the air. Instead, the birds had suffered an extreme trauma, bleeding internally and having crushed chests. The birds must have been hit with a blunt force, or sustained extreme trauma when they hit the ground. If they would have hit an airplane or anything going at that speed, the birds would have been vaporized.
So, the main question is, what makes 1000 birds fall out of the sky simultaneously with extreme damage to the chest? Theories have been thrown around that the government is testing planes, that their are UFO's and many other things. Some people also believe that the black birds falling out of the sky is a sign of the starting of the end of days.
I don't think we have to worry about the end of days, but this is an odd occurrence. Birds are always falling out of the sky, but to have two occurrences in 3 days is a bit odd. I think scientists need to really determine what happened to the birds, and then we will have reason to relax or worry.
Facts for the Apocalypse: Ever since residents of Beebe, Ark. woke up on New Year's Day to thousands of blackbirds that dropped mysteriously from the sky, a rash of other sudden-animal deaths have been reported furiously around the world. In a nearby Arkansas town, thousands of fish washed ashore on Monday. On Tuesday, another bout of 500 blackbirds were found dead in Baton Rouge, La.
ReplyDeletehttp://voices.washingtonpost.com/blog-post/2011/01/dead_birds_dead_fish_turn_up_a.html
Facts Against an Apocalypse: It seems sudden bird deaths occur more often than one would think. About 500 million to 1 billion birds are killed every year and mass deaths have been noted about 16 times in the past 20 years. Rather than a divine sign, the cause is likely human: fireworks scaring the birds, toxic chemical killing the fish or powerlines tangling up the birds. There are also reports that some of the deaths could be natural: the Chesapeake Bay carnage may be due to "cold-weather stress."
From the previously stated facts, it seems that the statistics that are publicly displayed are very different than those in actuality. Since 500 billion to 1 million birds die each year, theoretically, it is not out of the norm that these birds died for any 'sign' of an Apocalypse. Instead, it could be seen as a good omen. On New Years day, those who have lived make room for new life. On the other hand, people are more aware of forewarnings because of the hyped December 21, 2012 prediction. Another example of this sort of event is the Haitian and Chilean earthquakes, Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption, Pakistan floods, and Russian forest fires. When in fact, natural disasters strike more often than not, they are just not marketed as much as others. In addition to this information, the cause is human-induced. The fireworks have literally scared the birds to death. It is traumatic and any animal could suffer from the aftermath of a traumatic experience. Therefore, instead of a sign of an Apocalypse, it is a sign that we, as human beings, should take more care of the environment.
We shouldn't be worried just yet, because we don't exactly know what killed the animals. It could have been the weather in Arkansas that killed the birds that night or fireworks that were shot off at midnight on New Years Eve. The fish could have been killed by some type of toxin or radiation in the water. The strange thing is that these were only in those states. How come they weren't in any other states? Scientists took some of the animals for testing to see what happened to them but the testing may take up to a month. This has happened 16 times before in the past 20 years. It may happen again and we will not know why until the testing is done. For now we shouldn't be to worried until we know exactly what happened.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that this is a natural occurrence. This has happened 16 times in the past 20 years, and researchers say about 500million to one billion birds die this way every year. Some blame this on fireworks from New Year's eve, but this happens almost every year even when fireworks are not being lit off in large numbers. The unusually cold weather is the most likely cause of death (NPR News). Another factor is power lines that flocks of birds may be flying into. This is not just happening to birds though, hundreds of Snapper Fish washed ashore in New Zealand and two million Chesapeake Bay carnage are reported dead due to cold weather and chemical poisoning. All in all, there is no reason to be worried.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think that this is a rare and extremely unusual occurrence, and I can draw to several conclusions. First, it could be something like what happened on a discontinued show called FlashForward, from ABC. It was about a large mechanism that could make everyone and everything in the world die, live, sleep, or see the future when they are forced to fall asleep. Thousands of birds "died" in that show. My second conclusion is that a virus could have mass infected these birds, killing them off quickly. My last conclusion is that somehow, there may be a disturbance with fireworks or a machine that we, humans, don't know if it will harm other species. When this device is turned on, birds die for some reason. Maybe it is radiation, some form of ray, something only birds can be affected by. In short, yes. Yes, we should be worried, but not to the point of panic. For all we know, this may be natural and normal. This could be caused by simple fireworks or climate changes. The above things I said are mainly science fiction, but they may be true, even partially. We shouldn't worry unless the scientists testing what happened find out something horrible.
ReplyDeleteI guess maybe what Jonathan said could be true too. The thing about FlashForward.
ReplyDeletei think we should be worried about the thousands of birds falling from the sky, for many reasons. People are starting to get worked up over these birds because they feel this is a sign that the world is ending. This opinion could eventually affect others but i dont think that aspect of people thinking the world is going to end is really to big of a deal. The other could be a sign of how much our world is collapssing but not in the way that the world is "ending" just that us as human beings have damaged our home so muchh that it could be catching up to us and slowly showing us the damage we have done. This is definately something to be worried about. So in all, yes, we should be worried about the birds and other animals that have been dying in such drastic numbers. But only worried enough that we look into it and discover the problem.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should be worried because if billions of fish and birds are dying every year, and there are thousands falling from the sky in mass qualitied dead, we are going to be in some trouble. It was reported that 5,000 red winged black birds fell from the sky dead on New Year's Eve, probably because of cold shock, or the stun from the fireworks. 2 billion fish dead in Chesapeake Bay is the estimate that scientists and researcheres have come to. Most scientists think it is mainly humans fault for the mass quantities of birds and fish dying in such large quantities. Because of the power lines, the fireworks, or the toxic chemicals we are dumping into the oceans. Although this seems believable, other researchers say that the birds are suffereing from cold weather stress. If so many birds and fish are dying, there will be that much less fish to catch, and that much less birds to keep the population healthy. We are definitely not near the thought of extinction, but if they keep dyin at this rate, we will be.
ReplyDeleteOne theory on why are the birds is that it's a natural occurrence. 500 million to 1 billion birds die every year and there are 16 reported sightings of something like this in 20 years. It also could have been weather related. Another theory is that it's human caused. Fireworks set of on New Years eve scared and stressed the birds so much that they just died of shock. My personal favorite is a bit less believable, a quote by Alexandria Petri: "Angry Birds turns out to be a horrific, Ender's game-esque trick with sobering, real world consequences." Another far-fetched theory is that it's a government conspiracy, that all these birds crashed into a UFO, or that it's the end of days. I think the first two ideas are most likely the answer to why the birds fell that fateful night, and that we should be a bit concerned, but not really worried.
ReplyDeleteI think we should go into further explanation for the cause of the death of the birds and not freak out about it and make up really stupid names like aflockalypse cause it's not even close to that. For all we know some truck driver could have not seen them and they didn't get out of the way fast enough. I know that isn't a good explanation but who knows. Their is know need to be worried unless if they can't find a cause of death then we can get curious but their is still no need to freak out. I know that it is really weird that a couple hundred birds fall from the sky dead but they could have been drinking from a contaminated water source and got poisoning and died but we won't know until further investigation is done one the cause of death.
ReplyDeleteThousand of birds and fish have fallen from the sky all around the world, like Sweden, Haiti/Dominican Republic, Wales, New Zealand, and Louisiana. Scientists have examined the dead carcasses and they found no toxins inside the birds or fish. The cause of the massive deaths is not caused by toxins in their bodies, so their has to be another cause. Most of the birds fell from the sky late on December 31 and they followed into the new year. Experts think that the birds died because the fireworks scared them so bad that they died or that the they were so stressed out about the fireworks that they died. Another reason is that the birds might be dying in such large numbers is that they are getting stuck in power lines. Also the extremely cold weather might be a reason the birds and fish are dying. I think that we do not have the need to be worried now at this point because it's not such a bad problem now because huge firework displays only happen once or twice a year and the weather is natural so its not entirely our fault. I believe that we shound't be worried yet, but if the situation gets worse then I think its time to look into problem more carefully and maybe find a solution.
ReplyDeleteOn new years and new years eve, there were 5,000 black birds that fell dead from the sky. There were also over 100,000 fish that washed up dead along shore lines. Testing is being conducted on the animals, but it will be very hard to identify the cause for the deaths. THis is why we should be worried. If we don't know why, we cannot fix it if the problem is human caused. If it is not human caused, however, we also need to know why this occurred so that we can prepare for it properly. W might be able to same many species this way if only we understand the issue. This incident was catastrophic in every way and if it was stress that caused their deaths, then we need to make sure that they are not under so much stress that they would simply loose control like that. Every animal is important and we should not be loosing animals to stress if we can help it.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should always be worried when five hundred dead birds are found on a road. Although in this case it seems that the birds were killed by us. I don't think it is a coincidence that the birds were found on New Year's Eve, as several sources say, I think that fireworks did disorient the blackbirds and cause their deaths. Either people need to be more careful, or someone did it on purpose, as Dr. John Fitzpatrick believes. This type of thing has happened multiple times before, but I still think it is pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteoh and I do not believe fireworks could have killed the birds that is like zone in a million chance liitterauly
ReplyDeleteI think that we should be worried, especially since we can not explain what is happening. What if this is the start to something that could possibly change Earth as we know it? Has Global Warming finally caught up to us? There are some many and so few possibilities as to why it happened. I looked at the pictures of the birds, and no psychical abuse was present. I did find a possible reason of the "falling birds in Arkansas. BBC thinks the reason has to do with the celebration of New Years: fireworks. Arkansas is also been reported to have strange weather, which could also play a factor in the mysterious happening. Recently, Arkansas neighboring state lost a chunk of their fish population. What does this all mean? It is natural? I think that maybe it could be pollution taking a hard hit on the natural world. The emissions leak into the air, which is the home to most every type of bird. If there was a large amount in the air, then maybe it poisoned them. This has happened about 15 times in the last 20 years.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we should worry. The reports of this event have so far come from the east of us. What probably happened to the birds is that there was a chemical sprayed up in the air and that amount flew through it. The same phenomenon happened in 2009, but in this case, an animal control group was trying to lower the starling population in an area. And why should we care if the birds fall from the sky? We shoot more down then feel here anyway. The stupidest thing about this whole "phenomenon" is that people think the world is ending. There have been many reports of the "world ending" throughout the years and guess what? We survived. We just need to stop being paranoid.
ReplyDeleteI think we should not worry, but we should be more cautious. The incidences might have just been coincidences but they must have something in common. I believe that it was in fact fireworks that lead them into the electric pole. So yes it has happened many times before so why not find out what the root of the cause and then be more cautious. It was not poison, the stomachs of the birds were empty. It was not disease for almost every one of them had multiple internal hemorrhages which would mean that it was trauma. Albert Einstein said"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
ReplyDeleteAll the birds and fish dying seems to be isolated. Scientists determined that the cause of death was blunt force to the head and said that it was most likely that hail caused by the abnormal cold, somewhat rare in this area and thus unexpected by the birds. Other scientists have also said it could have been the equally new phenomenon of fireworks that startled and drove insane the birds. I think that we should further investigate the deaths so they don't happen again, but not panic. Humans tend to always think the world is ending.
ReplyDeleteI think that there is some cause for worry, but not enough for panic.
ReplyDeleteScientists have conducted test on harvested bird carcasses. They found that some had injuries that ranged from broken beaks to spines to wings, though there were some birds that appeared unharmed, without even traces of toxins in their systems. It is thought that some of the birds (those that were injured) flew into a power line, or ran into bad weather such as lightning or high-altitude hail, which would explain the injuries. Those birds that appeared unscathed were thought to have died of shock after the burst of fireworks on New Year's Eve.
I think that this means we should definitely be more cautious about our habits, seeing as they could affect wildlife and more incidents like this could occur. We can't control the weather, but we can be careful about how many fireworks we set off and where we set them off.
I don't think we should be worried. Officials say that the two incidents were just a coincidence. Its not like there is poison in the air and all the birds are dying, it was that they ran into the electric wires. The question is what caused that to happen. Birds don't just run into electric wires, there must have been something that played a part in the accident and this probably lies on the fact that is was new years eve. Fireworks may have hit near them or scared the huge group of birds which in turn lead them into hitting the wires. It was probably an accident but who knows. People just need to be careful where the fireworks are being shot, and there should be nothing to worry about.
ReplyDeleteOn New Year's Eve, there was a huge mass of bird deaths. It is almost certain that the birds died of trauma, but nobody can figure out what caused it. There are many theories, including storms, fireworks, flying into power lines, etc. Many of the birds were of species that refrain from flying at night due to lack of good vision, but these were flying and dying at 11 p.m. nonetheless. If something of this magnitude happens again, then yes, we should keep a close eye on the birds to find out what could be killing them off, but it could be a freak accident, too. What really confuses me is why the birds are flying at night. I think that is the root of the problem.
ReplyDeleteI think that this incident was caused by something that the Man(government) does not want us to know about. There are a few religious prophecies and stories that say that an event like this one might occur someday in the future. There are also a couple movies related to what happened. I think that this was caused by some sort of chemical that was either spread around by heredity or through the air. But it is more likely that it was hereditary, unless we are immune to the chemical.
ReplyDeleteThis just seems like a freak phenomenon, like the Marfa Lights. It has happened in 1973, and will probably happen every so often and then these stories will be brought back. People are paranoid and blow odd occurrences like these way out of proportion, and think it's the apocalypse. Nothing bad is going to happen to us, and this will probably not happen again for about 50 years. This meaning the end of the world is like saying genetic engineering could let a fly lift a mountain.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that we should be worried because a lot of the theories are that lightning knocked the birds out and killed them or that the fireworks from new years eve startled them and killed the because of stress. The fish might have just been contaminated in the waters.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we should be worried about this. It isn't disease and it isn't poison, at least that is what the autopsy suggests. The autopsy also shows that the death was caused by blunt trauma to the head. At this point, I am not worried. Researchers then suggest that fireworks scared the birds out of there nests and then into panic, causing them to be suicidal, running into buildings and the ground. If this is the case, how come it hasn't occurred in the past on New Years Eve? At this point, I begin to worry of what mysterious force that could make thousands of birds just die all in one night. Is there something happening with the planet that we don't know about? Is the government hiding something? I hope we find out soon.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that we should worry, but be more aware of what is going on. This could be our fault or it could be weather related. There was strong winds and some tornados in Arkansas when this bird death incident happened. There a couple of theories of why these birds died. To start, the fireworks that were set of on and near New Years could have shocked the birds to death. Also the smoke from the fireworks could have possibly sufficated the birds. The fireworks could just have disoriented the birds leading them to be run over by cars or not being able to find food. Another reason is the cold weather. Fish and crabs could have died from hypothermia. All this could have been natural but we should not be worried just more careful and aware.
ReplyDeleteI think that the death of all of the birds in Arkansas and Louisiana was a highly peculiar occurrence. However, I don't think we should be too concerned about the event. Scientists have stated that most of the birds seemed to die of hemorrhage, which would mean that there was no disease or poison present. The best conclusion about the New Year's Eve Arkansas case is that the birds frenzied from fear of fireworks. Violent weather may also have been a factor in the disturbance. Also, large quantities of bird deaths are not uncommon. According to the US Gelogic Survey, there were almost 90 mass bird deaths in the last 6 months. Because these events are explainable and so common, we have nothing to worry about.
ReplyDeleteA few websites gave the explanation of trama. Scientists are saying that almost all of the birds died because of trama, and they died new years night. My conclusion is that all of these birds died from fireworks, yes fireworks. What I believe could of happened is that the noise from fireworks could have frightened the birds greatly. Have you ever heard on of those up close? They are REALY loud. Also the birds may have been scared by the lights from the fireworks, or even blinded by them.
ReplyDeleteMass bird deaths certainly aren't a rare occurrence, but the fact that several mass bird deaths happened around the same area of the country (and in such a short timespan) is worrying. The fact that redwing blackbirds were flying at such an unusual time is also worrying. It's very possible that they could have flown into a power line, but it's uncertain why the birds chose to do so. It's also entirely possible that the panic from fireworks killed them, but then the internal bleeding and traumas couldn't be explained.
ReplyDeleteWhatever is happening, it isn't worth worrying about. About one billion birds die each year, and the only reason to make a big deal out of these deaths would be would be A. if we set a record, or B. if you're part of "the media."
I think would should be worried about this mass death of birds. It could seriously disrupt the balance of nature and throw off many different ecosystems. I also think that more details and support for the many theories that have been present are needed. Fireworks have been thought to been a cause of this event, startling the many birds and throwing them into a frenzy. The birds then collided with each other and then caused hemorrhaging (massive bleeding) and fell out of the sky. It also seems that a certain of of the US (South Central *Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi*) is the only place that massive amounts of dead birds have fallen. These places should be investigated to see if the causes of these deaths can be found.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should be worried but at the same time there may be nothing we can do about. If there is nothing we can do about it than there is no reason to worry. But right now we should be worried because these deaths may be linked some how. It said there were no toxins found in dead birds collected. This could also be the weather, there were possibilities that the birds were hit by lightning or other natural disasters in the night or they were hit by fireworks. But unless the reason is figured out soon the whole thing might just blow over if there are no more large bird deaths in a while. So, we all just might set the problem aside and never know the reason if a new different disaster happens.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that we should be worried as of now. Although birds randomly dropping from the sky dead is a strange occurrence, the testing is not complete to find what it was that had happened. If we find something in our air that is very endangering to birds or any organisms, or even if this is found to be an unexplainable occurrence, I would find reason to worry. I had even found a site that said mass bird and fish deaths are not uncommon. The U.S. Geological Service has a list of about 90 mass bird deaths that have been unexplained from June to December 12th.
ReplyDeleteI feel there is cause for concern. When there are three events of mass bird/fish killings in a 500-mile radius, it is extremely unlikely that they are not related. 100,000 fish were killed in Arkansas, 5,000 birds in Beebe, AR, and 500 birds in Louisiana, outside of Baton Rouge. All the birds seem to have died from extreme traumatic injuries, while cause of death for the fish is still being investigated. Other possible causes include stress-induced cardiac arrests from fireworks, disease, or in the birds' case, fireworks going off. Another incident occurred in Falkoping, Sweden where 500 birds mysteriously were confused and died mid-air, or remained conscious. Many of the latter were promptly killed by cars, who accidentally ran them over. New reports (literally in the past 5 minutes) indicate that the Beebe, AR die-off is probably due to a power line. The tests from birds in Louisiana are showing firework induced cardiac arrests.
ReplyDeleteOther reports of dead fish are coming in from Maryland, Brazil and New Zealand. An estimated 2,000,000 fish washed up on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay, dead. 100 tons of sardines were found dead in Brazil, too. In New Zealand, thousands of red snappers died. The mass die-offs in New Zealand and Maryland are thought to be due to the cold water and gradual starvation. Necropsies are being done on the Brazilian fish as I type.
Overall, concern is warranted. The unusually cold waters may be due to global warming, and we should do more to prevent irregular and extreme weather patterns that have been occurring more throughout the last few decades. The bird deaths, however, do not warrant the same concern.
Oh yay. I forgot. I do not think we should be concerned unless more birds turn up dead. If more do then the cause can not be fireworks, and it would mean that the cause of the birds death is still out there. However I don't think the deaths will continue.
ReplyDeleteThis event is very hard to explain, but I think we shouldn't have to worry. The mass death is definitely very surprising, especially in one group. Other parts of Earth are experiencing occurrences similar to this. Sweden has found several types of birds dead on the ground in mass groups with no explanation. New Zealand has found the same thing, with a large group of dead fish to add to the mystery. Australia, Idaho, . This does come up as a shock, but there are some theories that have possible conclusions to this.
ReplyDeleteIn Arkansas specifically, there were 5,000 birds found dead. This happened on New Year's Eve at around midnight. This flock was in the sky, making a lot of noise. A theory is that the fireworks disoriented the birds and made their senses go wild. Blackbirds can barely see in the sky so they might have crashed into several objects, like houses, walls, even themselves. There is also the chance of eating/drinking something poisonous to their health, but no research has gone into the Arkansas disaster. In Louisiana, there was some look into the bird's insides. There were several sights of blood clots and broken bones, but no poison in the body or stomach. Also, the organs were intact.
I personaly think that if hundreds to thousands of birds have randomly fallen out of the sky dead, then we might need to orry just a little bit, especialy if this continues to happen. lilke the article said, birds don't run into power lines with being promted to, if thats even what happened, nature conservationalists are going to freak out, the people walking the streets are going to freak out, the authorities are going to freak out, the people who have to clean all those dead birds are deffinetely going to freak out, it may have been just a random hailstorm, or maybe they fell out of their perches and onto the power lines, but that no reason to assume that thousands of birds would do it all at around the same time, it would have to be a lightning strike to get all of them, or a small explosive device, but as far as the evidene goes, there is no damage to the surrouunding area. its true that it may have been fireworks, but think of all the years we have been using the fireworks, as opposed to the ammount of times this has happened, dont you think that there would be more incidents for as long as we have been using fireworks in the united states? and you would have to set the fireworks off relatively close to the area the birds are in, so that leaves only two plausible options, the weather, or humans, Personaly i would go with the human cause, while it is entirely possible that the weather caused it, I couln't find any evidence of any hail, or thunder storms in the area for the past day or so, reiterating the fact that I think is a thing to worry about, people might just have to watch were their fireworks are.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the sources I looked at, these birds were frightened by something(most likely fireworks being set off) and went into mass panic. When the birds got panicked, they went into a flying frenzy, running into themselves and other things such as electrical poles. I think that we may want to be a bit worried, but only because we could have just caused a massive animal death with something that was only for our entertainment and fun (i.e fireworks). We shouldn't be worried about something like this event signals the world's end or anything. This kind of thing has happened before, and more than likely it will happen again. People have I tendency of blowing this kind of thing out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy, but I think 5,000+ birds dropping from the sky like flies is a bit concerning. Yeah, I know thousands of birds die each day, but that many in one night in one concentrated area is worrisome. Some say that fireworks could have caused the birds to become so agitated in their nests they died. Well, it's not like their roosting season changes from fall one year to winter the next. If they roost around this time this year, they roosted around this time last year. People are saying that some unpermitted looser shot of fireworks near the nesting site of the birds. This probably isn't the first time that's happened and could one set of fireworks really kill 5000 birds? Besides, many of the birds had broken beaks and backs, if fireworks tahd hit them, their reachers would be charred. Or if they just scared the birds so that they flew into objects and died from that, it doesn't explaint eh dead birds in the middle of the road. Some say lightnigng and hail killed them, well, which is it? Fireworks or lightning or hail? People aren't exactly shooting fireworks during a storm with hail or lightning. Don't think this is an apocalypse, but I am curious as to what happened. Shall we allow time to tell?
ReplyDeleteIt seems many people are looking over the fact that this did occur on New Years Eve. This fact could be significant in itself. If scientists say that all of these thousands of birds died from trauma, then something must have traumatized them. Although it is possible for a terrible thunder or lightning storm to be to blame for this, it is also quite possible that fireworks might have setoff the birds as well. If all of these deaths are happening New Years Eve and early New Years Day, fireworks, craklers, and sparklers may have contributed to this problem. All of these dead birds are appearing in Arkansas, a state where it is legal to have fireworks. Since one of the main types of the birds affected fly in groups, if a firework was set off and spooked even just a few of the birds, the other birds may have racted in panic due to the birds that were originally spooked. Although, this would not explain another thing, There were also up to 83,000 dead fish found in the same state, about 125 miles away at nearly the same time. Now, if it was fireworks that shocked the birds, how do we explain the fish?
ReplyDeleteOne last thing, I read several articles that said these birds were roosting-nesting. If hundreds of birds died, did anyone think of what would happen to the eggs? I'm not sure if they were not laid yet, if htey were laid, or if they had hatched yet. But in any case, these birds are dead as ducks. IF they haven't been laid yet, that's a whoel generation gone. IF they have been laid and/or hatched,, without their parents, they are going to die. So if you factor in those loss of lives, the number can be doubled, tripled, quadrupled depending on how many eggs each bird was nesting.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason to panic right now, not unless this becomes consistent. The New Year's bird deaths numbered at least 5,000 and there were at least 500 deaths in Louisiana. Right now, we need to concentrate on the cause for these seemingly random deaths. If we find that they are coincidental, then panic is unnecessary. But if they are somehow related, then we can act upon that information. Also, we need to look into the fish casualties that number up to 100,000. So no panic, but alertness is required.
