  2. 1. Environmental engineering is the act of using science technologies to improve the overall quality of the environment. They conduct studies on acid rain, global warming, etc. Environmental engineers address problems including air and water pollution, waste disposal, and public health to name a few.

    2. Chemistry, etc. Is used to clean up oil because of what it contains. It has chemicals within it that break down the oil and make it easier to pick up. While this is an easier option and certainly faster, it is not, however, safe for the marine life and the location of the spill because it contains many toxic materials.

  3. 1. Environmental engineering's the application of science and engineering to improve improve the environment.
    2. Chemistry and chemical engineering are helping with the bp oil spill by providing chemical dispersants to help clear the oil from the water as well as possibly helping by providing data on the affect of the oil and chemical dispersants.

  6. Environmental engineering is the process of applying science and engineering principles to improve the environment in ways such as having healthy drinking water, fresh air and habitats.
Chemical engineering is helping with the oil spill by providing chemical dispersants to help break up the oil and the water.

  7. 1. Environmental engineers are the ones who try and come up with a solution to environmental problems, such as the oil spill.
    2. Chemical and chemistry are helping to provide chemical dispersants which help break down the oil in the gulf. This helps with the clean up by making it faster, but it is also dangerous to the marine life that is around it.

  8. Environmental engineering is the application of science and
engineering principles that help pollution in the environment such as
    water pollution and air pollution.

Chemical engineering could be useful in preserving the oil by because
they work with physical science, life science, and mathematics to
convert raw materials in more useful substances. Chemicals are useful for helping the oil spill because they break down the oil to make it a more manageable substance for the scientist to work with. The scientist will need a material to physically grab to take the oil out of the water.

  9. Environmental engineering is a a profession where people identify and come up with solutions to environmental problems. Environmental engineers help with air quality, water pollution, and removing hazardous materials. They try to protect the environment from problems, and solve the problems already created.
Chemical Engineering and chemistry help with the gulf oil spill by creating products to stop the flow of oil and to clean up the existing oil. They can create chemicals to break down the oil, etc.

  10. Environmental engineers are professionals who identify issues and come up with a solution to fix the problem. Environmental engineers provide us with safe drinking water, properly dispose waste, maintain clean air and water by regulating pollution, and clean up sights contaminated by hazardous materials.

Chemistry and chemical engineering are used in aiding in the oil spill clean-up because of the use of chemical dispersants. The clean-up efforts need chemists and chemical engineers to develop the chemicals to use on the spill and to determine how much of it to use. Without them, the oceans would not be as clean.

  11. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering for the benefit of the environment, and the organisms living within it. Chemical engineering is necessary in order to understand the nature and makeup of the spill and to make a comprehensive, beneficial, and efficient solution to the issue.

  12. 1. Environmental engineering is used to improve the environment by using science and engineering principles. They involve public health issues, recycling, pollution control, and waste disposal.

    2. Environmental engineering could be helping by telling people working to get rid of the oil more about the oil and what's happening to it. Chemistry can give us the chemicals to get rid of the oil.

  13. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve the environment, to provide clean air water and land for human habitation and for other organisms, and to remedy polluted areas (from wikipedia)

Chemistry and chemical engineering are being used in the gulf spill. Chemical dispersants are supposed to be "eating up" the oil. They are also using chemistry to try and come up with new, safer ways to get rid of the oil, because the dispersants are toxic. Chemical engineers are worried that they will hurt the wildlife, and that is the opposite of what they want.

  14. The dictionary definition of environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve the environment and to improve human habitation. With this as the definition I think that environmental engineering is very important. Things that have come from this type of engineering are canals, filters, mills, air conditioners, water cleaners, land monitors, and other various items important to very day use.
Chemical engineering is a branch of chemistry in which the design, maintenance, and improvement processes all involve chemical or biological transformations. Chemical engineering is used in oil cleanup as chemical dispersants. Although from what we learned about chemical dispersants and whether we think they are good or not, the important thing is chemical engineering because that covers so many topics of even greater importance.

  15. Environmental engineering is when we engineer or fix air, water, and land pollution to help humans and other organisms.

Chemistry and chemical engineering is used during the oil clean up in the way of chemical dispersants and other uses, such as skimmer boats, microbes that already live in the gulf anyways, and many more.

  17. Environmental engineering is an applicAtion of science and engineering to help improve the planet by providing fresh water, healthy land forms, etc. Environmental engineers help with water and air pollution control, waste management and public health issues. They keep track of the environmental hazards going on in the present day as well as in the past so we can help predict the future. They conduct many studies involving hazardous waste, and develop regulations to prevent further mishaps. Environmental engineers help us and our planet in many ways thAt we could not live without.

Chemical engineering is a physical science that converts raw materials into more useful forms so a chemical engineer can help with the oil clean up since they have experience in problem solving such as what the oil spill is in desperate need of. In addition to producing useful materials, modern chemical engineering is concerned with Pioneering valuable new materials and techniques. Chemical engineers also make sure certain procedures are conducted safely, sustainably, and economically.

  18. 1. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering to improve Water, air, and land. They recognize and find a solution to environmental conflicts.

    2. Chemicals like dispersants break down the oil slick, but the chemical engineers monitor the chemical released because they are toxic. So the chemicals are cleaning up the oil and not leaving an aftermath of other issues caused by the chemicals behind. Chemical engineering is also concerned with the design, construction, and operation of machines that perform chemical reactions to solve common problems that could occur during the oil clean up
or make useful products at could improve the clean up process.

  19. 1.) Environmental engineering is when science and engineering is somewhat combined to help the environment such as simple as the air we breathe, water we drink and use, and other resources such as recycling, to keep that already used up disposals (trash) clean too!
2.) How is chemistry and chemical engineering used in aiding with oil clean-up? Chemical engineering has a mix of engineering within and involves physical science which is basically physics and chemistry. This would help with oil clean-up because engineering is using math which you could calculate and make diagrams of the oil spill and trouble areas and you could make a dam or something that could stop it even maybe for a chemical engineer to make only a certain area that drags in only oil so instead of going out into the ocean to clean up the spill the oil would come to us and then in an area away from harmed animals we can intensely clean a smaller area and it wouldn't be so bad. So a win-win situation!!

  20. Environmental engineering is the combination on science and engineering to make the air, water, land, etc. As clean as possible to the animals or people that inhabit the surrounding land. A complex understanding of our human impact is the major goal along with the knowledge of how to solve, analyze, and manage the issues in natural resources and pollution. Engineers' job is to think of creative ways to provide solutions, and in the case of the oil spill, scientists from Michigan Technolological University have created unique ways to mop up the spill. Gerard Caneba has made a machine that traps and recovers oil with biodegradable polymer surfactant, compounds that annihilate surface tension in liquids, Another engineer from MTU, Zeyad Ahmed, has manufactured gravity-based oil and water seperants. Since boats in the Gulf contribute to the underwater pollution, Ahmed's creation can let the boats Discharge only water and save the oil in a storage tank until it can be transferred into another ship.

  22. Environmental engineering can be defined as a type of engineering that focuses on the environment and taking care of it. Environmental engineers would work on things like reducing pollution, public hygiene, and keeping water, air, and land clean so humans can safely use them. Environmental engineering started when the need for clean drinking water and managing waste was evident.

Chemical engineering is pretty much the application of chemistry. This branch of engineering focuses on things like machine and plant configuration, arrangement, and process. These machines can solve problems or produce products by performing chemical reactions. Chemical engineering is used in the aid of cleaning up oil spills because the chemical engineers can help find a solution for it. They are the ones who came up with things like the dispersants.

  23. 1. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering to improve the environment, the air, water, and land, to make a better living environment for us humans, and other living things such as animals and plants.

    2. Well chemistry and chemical engineering are used in helping us clean up the oil spill. Chemistry is the science of matter and the changes it undergoes, scientists are studying the changes that are happening to the water and the living organisms, and thats how chemistry comes into play. Chemical engineering is used in aiding of the oil spill because we use chemical dispersants like Corexit 9500 to help disperse the oil. Environmental engineering is also used because it is the science of helping or improving the environment, and thats what we need, a way to help the people and animals effected by the oil spill.

  24. Environmental engineering is the combination of science and engineering to improve the environment to clean water and land, as well as create non polluted air, so that humans and other organisms can have the ability to live healthily. It involves controlling water and air pollution, and recycling and many other things. They hold studies of hazardous waste materials and management. This way, they can prevent mishaps from happening.

Chemistry is study of matter and the changes it undergoes in a chemical reaction, and chemical engineering takes it one step further. They combine the study of chemistry with physics and forms of life sciences to convert raw materials into useful or valuable forms that we may need. They also focus on creating new technology, such as nanotechnology, or even biomedical engineering. Both chemistry and chemical engineering can be useful in helping with the oil clean-up because with chemistry, we can find out what works best with the cleaning procedure, and we can find out how much of it we would need. Chemical engineering can assist the cleaning since with it, we can run tests and truly find something to clean the oil up, and maybe even collect it so we can put it to good use.

  25. Environmental engineering is the applying science and engineering principles to improve the environment. Environmental engineers identify and brainstorm ways that can be used to solve the current issue. They focus on air pollution, water disposal, recycling, public health, and trying to provide clean essentials that Earth gives us, like water, air, and land. Chemical engineering is applying physical science and life science, such as biology.
I was reading article about researchers in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware. They discovered that chicken feathers used to help in the oil spill. The US poultry industry generates 5-6 bIn pounds annually. At this amount, they could handle an oil spill covering some 200,000 square miles, or the entire economic zone of the Gulf. Environmental engineers find solutions to clean the oil spill without further harm of the environment.

  26. Envronmental engineering is the combination of science and engineering to improve the condition of the environment. It is used to remove pollution to make the Earth a safer place for animals and humans. One of the ways environmental engineering is used is by recycling. Engineers study ways to stop air pollution such as car exhaust and industrial air pollution.

Chemistry and chemical engineering is used in aiding the oil clean-up because various chemicals can be added to the water to possibly make the oil easier to clean-up, but the chemicals that have already been added to the water are now harming the marine life and engineers need to find a way to get those chemicals out of the water possibly through other chemicals. Chemistry is very important in the efforts to clean-up the oil, but the engineers need to be very careful with the Chemicals they put into the water because the could be more harmful then the oil which has already happened and once a chemical is in the water, there is no way of reversing the situation. They also need to make decisions very fast which puts pressure on them to fix the problem of the oil spill that may lead to mistakes that don't end up solving anything. Chemicals can be very dangerous and Chemical engineering is a dangerous job because the engineers handle chemicals that are hazardous to them and to the animals they are attempting to save.

Environmental engineers can be chemical engineers or they can specialize in another field, but they are all very Imporant to the well being of the human race and the animal kingdom. They fix the mistakes humans and companies make. Without them, there would be no hope for a clean, pollution free future. Even with them, there is no chance that they can reverse what has been done to the Earth, but air and land pollution.

  29. Enviromental engineering Is when science is used to clean up the environment. For example, chemicals and enviromental engineering in the form of chemical dispersants is being used to clean up the gulf oil spill.

  30. 1. Environmental engineering is the use of scientific and engineering technology to improve the environment. This includes recycling, cleaning up water and air as well as making greener alternatives to nonevironmental products.

    2. Chemical dispersants are being used to breakdown the oil slick the gulf. The chemicals decompose the oil by bring down from the surface and into the water column.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Environmental engineering is the use of science and engineering techniques to improve the condition of the air, water, and land. Chemical engineering is being used to find a less toxic compound to eliminate the oil. Chemistry is being used to determine the reactions of the compound to the salt water and oil, and what happens after its initial use; ie, what it breaks down to, how long it stays in the water.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Environmental engineering--The application of science and engineering principles to improve the environment (the air, water, and/or land resources) in order to provide clean and healthy resources for humans and other organisms and to remediate polluted sites.
Chemistry and chemical engineering are being used in the oil clean up in the form of chemical dispersants (keyword there is chemical) and other technologies designed to separate the oil from the water. Chemical engineers are also working on creating new, less harmful dispersants so that we may clean up the oil with out harming the ecosystem.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Environmental engineering is basically how the concepts of engineering tie in with the environment and help improve air and water quality and help natural resources continue and this an important role in today's world because of all of the environmental damage being caused.

Chemical engineering is life science and chemistry together. Chemists are the ones who are going to be studying the breakdown of the oil in the oil spill. They are the one that are going to find the solution to breaking up the oil and taking it away from the water. We have found that solution but it's not safe enough, they need to work a little more to find the REAL solution to the spill. A safe solution is all we need.

    ReplyDelete
  34. environmental engineering is when we bring together science and engineering principles with environmental principles.
Chemical engineering helps clean oil spills because it can produce chemical dispersants but it can also hinder by adding toxic substances to the oil and water. It can also create non-toxic substances to put in the water, but it takes time and research to develop it, and find ways to neutralize the oil and other poisons.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Environmental engineering is the use of engineering to create and modify technology that will help the environment. (More specifically, things like pollution and waste disposal/recycling, and sometimes noise pollution as well.)
Chemistry is used when cleaning up oil spills very frequently. Chemistry is obviously needed when creating the (very controversial) chemical dispersants, since chemists need to know what chemicals to put in them and which chemicals the oil will best react to. To know which chemicals the oil will react to, chemistry is also needed when studying oil. Chemists need to know which chemicals are in the oil and how strong they are.

  36. 1). Environmental engineering is when mankind uses science and engineering to improve the environment. Some examples of what they improve is air pollution, water pollution, recycling, and public health issues.

2). Chemistry is an aid to the oil spill clean up because chemical dispersants are a part of chemistry. Chemical dispersants are used to break up the oil. Chemical engineers are engineers that deal with physical science and make raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. Environmental engineering is when science and engineering are combined to help the environment. Environmental engineers study hazards to the environment to see how they need to be dealt with, then they deal with the issue on hand.

    2. Chemistry and chemical engineers are important to aid in oil clean up because they understand how a product will work, what it will effect, and if it is dangerous. If we didn't have chemicals engineers working on the spill, then we would have little knowledge of how the chemicals being used would work! In fact, we could be using products that don't work at all, and are just a waste of time.

  38. Environmental engineers are engineers who help solve environmental problems. They properly dispose waste, provide clean drinking water, maintain the quality of the air and help regulate pollution. They develop ways to help protect the environment.
Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that dels with applying physical science and life sciences with math. Chemical dispersants being used to break up the oil are a product of chemical engineering. The chemicals are crucial to cleaning up the oil, however, chemists need to be more careful about how their chemicals affect animals.

  39. Envronmental engineering prosese of using science to improve the envioment and to make it more habitable for humans and animals alike.

They are used to create dispersants which help clean up the oil and they are also used to better under stand where the oil will go.

  40. Environmental engineering is the branch of science dealing with environmental issues such as pollution, recycling, and other creative ways to improve the overall health of the planet.

Environmental and chemical engineers can conduct tests on hazardous areas like the Gulf after the oil spill to see how the change in the environmental condition is affecting them. From theses tests they can find the best ways to go about clearing up the problem without causing harm. Unfortunately the oil dispersants aren't helping clear up the spill as effectively as they were supposed to, because of the damage it causes to wildlife.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Environmental engineering is when science and engineering combine to help and improve the environment in different ways, like cleaning up hazardous waste, to managing garbage and not letting it contaminate land, water, and air.
Chemistry is the science of matter and chemical engineering is the branch of science that deals with the application of physical science, like chemistry and physics. We are applying these sciences to help clean up the spill in the Gulf by using oil dispersants and other chemicals that help limit the spill and break down the oil. But since some of the oil dispersants actually hurt wild life, chemical engineers are going to have to be more careful about what exactly they put into the water.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to help improve and protect the environment. Environmental engineering includes controlling air and water pollution, Waste disposal, recycling,

Well one of the biggest things being used involving chemistry and chemicals, is the oil dispersants. It's helps clear out the oil, but in every other way it is horrible for the water and the living things in it, and also, the oil and the dispersants mixed, are way worse than just either alone.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 1) Environmental engineering is the improvement of water and air. Environmental engineering is also the control of waste disposal and recycling. Basically environmental engineering is keeping the living environment clean and healthy so that humans and creatures can live in it.

    2) They use chemical engineering and chemistry while cleaning up the oil spill by using the the chemical dispersants and how they react to the oil in the gulf. Then chemical engineering is used with the machines being used to aid in the clean up of the BP oil spill. Like the cap used to stop the flow of the oil.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 1. Environmental engineering is the discipline of solving problems that confront the Earth, whether the problems are human made or naturally caused. Among this is understanding human impacts on public health, natural resources, which is used to solve the problems of the modern environment. These problems include water treatment, contaminants, water resources, landfills, and waste management. These engineers will certainly be used to contain the oil spill, because of there knowledge of the hydrosphere. Another growing application of this field are planned eco cities, such as the Songdo international Business District, which is planned to be the world's most livable and futuristic city. Such cities have been planned by environment engineers to pack as many people into a small space, while being self-sustainable.

    2. Chemistry and chemical engineering are highly useful in the spill because it is the part of engineering that merges physical science and life science with mathematics. Some applications that could change the spill are organic chemicals for dispersing, and to find other ways to separate the water from the oil. Included in this field is the study of polymers, which could be used to solidify or collode oil together.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 1) The combination of sciences and engineering to improve overall aspects of the environment, often for the benefit of mankind is what is referred to commonly as Environmental Engineering. It is used to design new, as well as existing, products, methods, and technologies to help with issues that appear in the environment and in humans preferences.

    2) Chemisty and chemical engineering are being used to create chemicalnthat would ideally help out break down the oil. But unfortunately, a lot of these chemicals and studies seem to be undeveloped. So, is it really very wise to release this chemical that is lacking knowledge. Should we take the chance? Some are saying that it is helping, but can we really make those conclusions in a matter of weeks?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Basically, environmental engineering is improving the environment using technology. In order to become and environmental engineer you need to be well read in engineering and law. People who work in this field run hazardous waste studies to determine the significance of it, how to contusion and manage it, and create laws to enforce regulations so mishaps don't happen.

Chemical engineering is using physical science, biology, and mathematics to use raw materials and chemicals in more profitable ways that will help the environment (i.e. green). Their main focus is on manufactures and how to better them and maintain a more eco-friendly business. Chemical engineering is being used with B.P. by trying to use chemicals that can disperse the oil or make it easier to clean up.but now chemical engineers need to up hold the other
Art of their job and help to create an eco-friendly solution to the oil spill;they are not cleaning up the oil practically and helping the business (B.P.) maintain aN efficient, logical, HELPFUL solution.

  47. 1: Environmental Engineering is the study of sustainability in the environment. These people have created well known procedures that are common today, such as recycling and energy saving light-bulbs. They even create a system that takes unused household water and makes it potable to save water. They also study hazardous disasters to find solutions. They are part of the operation to contain the oil in the gulf.

2: Chemical study life science and physical science to help companies create byproducts be more Eco-friendly. They are usually people that are working for solutions, but it wants to save money. Money is key for them to keep them in business. They were mostly responsible for the chemical dispersants and are trying to help the gulf, but want to keep it within a budget.

  48. 1) Environmental engineering is the concept of using the principles of engineering to help the environment. An example is its use to provide cleaner water. The engineers have to deal with any problems in the environment. This career also may involve using law as a method for achieving its goals. This subsection is called environmental engineering law.

    2) Chemical engineering can help the oil clean-up by breaking down the oil molecules, but it is a risky business. Like Corexit 9527, it may be perceived as a benefit, but just end up affecting, and possibly killing more animals.
